Unique, Single Driver Speaker Design |
Rocky Mountain Audio LLC was formed out of the belief that uncommonly high quality speakers could be made for much less than most high end speakers. The end result is superbly designed and crafted rear loaded bass horn cabinets using high quality full range drivers.
Full range drivers: Rear loaded bass horns: How the horn cabinet works: Horn cabinets increase in size exponentially from the throat to the mouth. The full range speaker is situated at the throat and as the diaphram moves, high pressure is created with a small amplitude in a small area. As the pressure wave moves toward the mouth, the pressure decreases and the amplitude increases, creating a natural efficient amplification. Distortion is directly proportional to the size of the speaker diaphram. The large electromechanical transducer in a conventional speaker has to move much more than the smaller transducer in a high efficiency full range driver to produce the same sound pressure levels, which creates much more distortion. Since the diaphram in a full range driver is smaller and lighter, it accelerates and decelerates faster, which means smoother and faster responses and transients. Our cabinets: Good looks, great sound, and affordable. What more could a discerning listener want? Rocky Mountain Audio, LLC/ LWP Enterprises
Nothing between the listener and their music but an amplifier and one full range driver. None of those messy imaging problems associated with multi drivers. No crossover losses, no impedance shifts linked to multiple high frequency drivers.
None of that messy bandpass effect, torturing, shifting and boominess that goes with most bass reflex box speakers. Additionally, improving it with a fully tunable proprietary tone chamber, allowing for the use of any size speaker driver the end user might find desirable.
When a speaker diaphram vibrates, sound pressure waves are created. This is the sound we hear. Since sound travels better in high density "high impedence" materials than in low density " low impedence" materials, such as air, our horn cabinets create a higher acoustic impedence for the speaker diaphram to work, allowing more power to be transferred to the air.
Our horn cabinets do not use the "folding horn" design, instead using a design that curves in only one direction, avoiding "ricochetting" of the sound waves. Coupling a full range driver with our horn systems provides the most natural sound reproduction possible. And, with our fully tunable proprietary tone chamber, your favorite full range drivers may be installed and tuned at will.
